RINET’s Kathy Wallace supports the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston. As a former Big Sister for 9 years, Kathy Wallace joined the board of Big Sister of Greater Boston in the fall of 2009 and is President of the Alumnae Association. Kathy volunteers regularly with the Big for a Day Program spending time with girls who are waiting to be matched. Matching a Big and Little Sister is a very personal process to get to know both the volunteers and the girls. Each match takes time and discussion with the social workers in order to ensure it has the best chance of success. On October 1, 2011, 30 members of Team Jackson participated in JDRF’s Walk to Cure Diabetes at the Hatch Shell in Boston. The event drew over 7,000 walkers and raised $1.8 million to fund diabetes research. Team Jackson was formed when Jackson Savage was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes six years ago at the age of three. Team Jackson was recognized as the highest fundraising family team in Massachusetts.

On September 22nd, RINET and Anchor Capital Advisors, LLC fielded their best teams to face off in a rematch softball game. RINET, whose squad was victorious in the first outing, led early in the game only to see their lead disappear in the late innings. A ninth inning rally, however, improved RINET’s record to 2-0 versus its former sister company and both teams are looking forward to another duel next year.

RINET’s Jonathon Gais, a graduate of Tufts University in Medford, MA where he was a varsity rower for three years returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach of the novice men’s program. Every morning for six days a week this Fall Jonathon will be at the new Tufts William A. Shoemaker Boathouse or on the water teaching the newest members of the crew team how to row. Since graduating in 2006, Jonathon has remained involved with Tufts and currently is the President of Tufts Alumni Boston Board and sits on the Alumni Council. Jonathon is also President of Tufts Theta Chi Alumni Board.

RINET’s team of runners and volunteers participated in the 3rd annual Harborthon 5K Road Race held on July 28th for the benefit of Camp Harborview located on Boston Harbor’s Long Island. The race, sponsored in part by RINET, supports the camp which was opened in 2007 as a result of Mayor Menino’s concern for inner-city children and the efforts of Boston businessman and civic leader Jack Connors, Jr. Camp Harbor View’s mission is to provide Boston children age 11 to 14 living in Boston’s at risk neighborhoods the opportunity to leave the city and participate in a four-week summer camp. RINET has been supporting this fund raising effort since the first race in 2009. Special thanks to RINET’s Kathy Wallace and Anne Sergi who provided support to the entire field of approximately 1,000 runners.

RINET’s team of runners participated in the J.P.Morgan Corporate Challenge Road Race along Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. The race benefits charitable groups in host cities throughout the world and was sold out in Boston for the 17th consecutive year. Congratulations to RINET’s team and captain Shannon Murphy who posted a team best time of 26 minutes 31 seconds for the 3.5 mile course.

RINET was a sponsor of Jewish Community Center’s 8th Annual Golf Tournament. The proceeds from the event went to fund scholarships for summer camp programs. The JCC’s mission is to advance the aspirations of families and individuals to enrich their lives, bodies and spirits, by providing the best in contemporary programs and experiences, informed by Jewish values for today’s Jews and the people in their lives.

RINET sponsored Boston Medical Center’s 15 th Annual Gala. The event honored U.S. Ambassador to Spain and Andorra, Alan Solomont and his wife Susan Lewis Solomont. Ambassador and Mrs. Solomont have served Boston Medical Center in countless ways. The event raised a record-breaking $2.5 million, which will provide much-needed resources to help sustain many programmatic endeavors at BMC. We are pleased to partner with BMC in support of the community and their mission to provide exceptional care, without exception.

RINET was a sponsor of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s 29th Annual Hearts & Heroes Gala at the Boston Marriott Copley Place. This year’s gala with a theme of “Connecting to the Cure” raised $1.1 Million for diabetes research through the generous support of sponsors, donors and attendees. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 diabetes research worldwide and RINET’s Gary Savage, currently the Board President, has served on the foundation’s board since 2008. RINET was a sponsor of the Mother Caroline Academy and Education Center’s 2011 gala. The proceeds of the event are used to fund scholarships for MCAEC’s students. Established in 1993, MCAEC provides a nurturing and rigorous middle school for inner city girls in Dorchester’s Blue Hill Avenue neighborhood. Brian Rivotto is a member of the Board of Overseers.

RINET sponsored the Inaugural Boston Tip-Off Classic on December 4, 2010. Over 10,000 college basketball fans watched Drexel University take on Northeastern University and Boston College battle the University of Massachusetts. Proceeds from the Classic will benefit Children’s Hospital of Boston and al’s angels.

RINET was a sponsor of Big In Boston on November 9, 2010. This annual event for Big Sister Association of Greater Boston raised over $500,000 to support the mentoring programs for girls. The 450 guests at the Westin Copley Place heard from current and former Little Sisters and one mother who spoke of how the program has transformed their lives. Big Sister Association of Greater Boston serves thousands of girls in 69 communities. Big Sister helps girls reach their full potential through positive mentoring relationships with women.
